Julia Peltason received the diploma in computer science with focus on artificial intelligence and computer linguistics from the University of Freiburg. She wrote her diploma thesis about user modeling in dialog systems in cooperation with Harman/Becker Automotive Systems, Ulm. In November 2006, she joined the research group for Applied Informatics at Bielefeld University.

She has been working for the BMBF-Project DESIRE and the EU-Project Cogniron where she also co-organized the Cogniron Winter School on Human Robot Interaction. She has also been associated with CITEC in the research area "Memory and Learning". Currently, she is working for the SoziRob project.

Julia's research focuses on dialog system engineering for robotics. More specifically, she is developing the PaMini dialog framework, targeting the demands of advanced human-robot interaction such as mixed-initiative, multitasking, learning within interaction and situated dialog in dynamic environments. She has proposed an approach to dialog modeling on robots that (1) provides fine-grained interfacing to the robotic subsystem through a task state protocol and (2) encapsulates recurring dialog structures as generic interaction patterns that support rapid prototyping of interaction scenarios. Moreover, she is interested in interaction design and has contributed to a number of scenarios exploring social robots and robot assistants.
