Dr.-Ing. Fang Yuan

Fang Yuan received the Master Degree in Applied Computer Science (Angewandte Informatik) from the University of Applied Sciences Gelsenkirchen in 2006. After writing his master thesis "Theroy and Application of FIR and IIR Digital Filters for Edge Detection of 3D Imaging in Medicine", he joined the research group Applied Computer Science (Angewandte Informatik) in Bielefeld, where he is working for the EU Project COGNIRON (The Cognitive Robot Companion) towards his PhD. His research interests are digital signal processing and its applications in image processing, as well as the current work about the human accompanied service robot exploration. The idea is that the robot perceives the basic information (e.g. a metric map, human illustrated concepts, etc.) of a new environment with human together (Home Tour) in a social accepted way using a SLAM (Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) approach and performs some special tasks alone in the known environment afterwards.
