Software Engineering for Robotics and Automation

in

Real-world systems require good architectures and sound engineering---something that is all too often lacking but which will be a deciding factor if robotics systems are to succeed outside of the lab.

This research area fundamentally combines software architectures and patterns with control systems engineering. Additionally, Human-Robot-Interaction and industrial design play an important role in defining goals and shaping great solutions.

Here at the Applied Informatics Group, we

  • develop software for assembling and testing systems
  • survey how software engineering is actually performed in the real world
  • improve existing development processes and tools to address robotics challenges
